Team ReToast from the University of Minnesota, has been selected as the top three finalists at the American Society of Baking, Product Development competitions. ReToast is a healthful, delicious cookie made with 30% upcycled ingredients and shaped in the form of attractive miniature toast slices. ReToast is a story about unlocking value out of food waste, it promotes the idea of snacking with a purpose! To interact with the team and learn more about ReToast, please register for BakingTech 2021 (free for all students). Voting lines open at noon on Feb 17th 2021.


The three steps to vote are as follows

1) Register for BakingTech 2021 conference (free for students). Registration closes February 10th. Go to this link to register: https://asbe.org/bakingtech2021/

2) Attend PDC presentation screening on Feb 17th 11:10 - 12 pm CT

ICE CREAM DEMO AND DISCUSSION
WITH DR. MAYA WARREN

Join us for an ice cream demo from ice cream scientist and Amazing Race winner, Dr. Maya Warren! She will show us how to make no-churn vanilla ice cream that you can add your favorite toppings to! We will be providing ingredients for you to pickup from the FSCN building the week of the demo, so please fill out this form if you would like to reserve supplies.

We want to provide extra ingredients to add to the vanilla ice cream to make our very own "Maroon and Gold" ice cream! Please click the link below to give us your inclusions suggestions for a Maroon and Gold flavor (think raspberry and yellow cake pieces, for example).

1ST ANNUAL
SPEEDY SCIENCE COMPETITION

The Phi Tau Sigma, Honor Society of Food Science and Technology - University of Minnesota Chapter is organizing the first ever thesis presentation competition called “Speedy Science 2021”.


The competition is inspired from the 3 MT Ⓡ thesis challenge that was originated at the University of Queensland in 2008. Speedy Science 2021 competition gives graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to showcase their research and science communication skills to a broader audience.


The purpose of this competition is to challenge students to think creatively and present the impact of their research in a succinct and relatable manner under three minutes. The event will be conducted live synchronously via ZOOM making it accessible to all the student members at University of Minnesota (UMN), South Dakota State University (SDSU) and North Dakota State University (NDSU).

Eligibility: Please note that Phi Tau Sigma UMN Chapter membership is encouraged, but NOT required for participation in this event. All graduate and undergraduate students at UMN, NDSU, and SDSU in the Food Science and Nutrition fields of study are eligible to submit an abstract in the Speedy Science 2021.

How to participate: Please fill out the Google form link click here to submit your abstract by February 28, 2021. The Google form will be used to prescreen participants and to select 6 finalists who will present at the live virtual Speedy Science event.
